Trying to sum up my thoughts on the auto industry is difficult. For one thing, I'm simply a spectator. I have no access to the cars that I feel passionately about. I have limited access to the information that I gather about the industry. I can't really fix 'em and I can't drive a stick. It seems questionable, then, that I would desire more than anything to go into the business of writing in detail about cars. It is true, however, and I hope that this blog will allow me to have an outlet on which to spew (I use this word both for the lack of a better term as well as to align with my wife's feelings about my automotive rants) my ideas and with any luck, there might be something of quality within the lines.
It's difficult to know where to start a project like this, but an overview seems like as good a place as any. I suppose the only view that I can frame my thoughts through is an American consumer, although I hardly consider myself going through the qualifying number of autos to feel like this is a legit title. I do however think about which cars I would purchase if I had the means, and research the subject practically daily so that if that winning ticket ever does come my way, I know exactly which nuts will be in my party mix of a garage.

2008 Scion xB
I love this car. It's the perfect size for a small family. It's safe, with electronic stability control, anti-lock brakes and side curtain air-bags. There aren't many hills in Phoenix, so we get about 26 mpg almost exclusively in city driving. Consumer Reports rates the xB as a very reliable car, with the same 2.4 liter 4 cylinder engine that has been in the Toyota Camry for years and the same 4 speed automatic transmission that has proven reliable in the Scion tC.
2004 Honda Civic Coupe
This is a good car that has been trouble-free for 60k miles. It has a 1.7 liter non V-TEC 4 cylinder engine and 4 speed transmission that add up to good fuel economy but mild performance characteristics. The 2 door is a little too small for the entire fmaily to ride in, but it still works beautifully as a commuter car. It doesn't have the safety features I would like, which is the primary reason I think about switching it out.
